Marek Mountain

Colorado - September 2025 Mary and I went to Colorado for a week, to ride trains, see the mountains and enjoy the late Summer time high altitudes. We drove from Boerne to Santa Fe, then to Durango, then to Silverton, over the Million Dollar Highway, back to Roswell and home. Below are batches of photos from our trip. The Summary group is 78 pictures itself to recap the trip, where the other groups are daily highlights. A video recap is in the works. Marek Mountain Travels the personal travel site of Frolin Marek

Summary - this album is a summary of all days from this trip, a sampling from each of the daily photo groups to give a overview of our trip. There are 78 pictures in this summary album. Day 1 & 2 - we drove from Boerne to Santa Fe, about 670 miles, across West Texas and New Mexico. The next day drove over Wolfe Creek Pass and back, then to Durango for the evening. Lots of different views. Day 3 - toured the Durango & Silverton NGRR museum, then rode the train to Silverton, in a Parlor Car. The two hour layover gave us time for lunch and some shopping, before the 3 hour train ride back to Durango. Day 4a - in the morning, we drove over the two mountain passes to Silverton then went on a mine tour. This was 1500ft directly in to the side of the mountain via mine tram. What a neat experience and great tour. Day 4b - back to town, we toured the San Juan County museum. This is a self guided tour of Silverton history, from mining exhibits and models, to town features like old phone systems and such. Day 5a - the morning was spent bumming around Silverton. Was able to see the various old buildings along with catch all 3 of the daily trains as they came to town. Plus walked a great exhibit of old railroad cars. Day 5b - later afternoon, drove over the Million Dollar Highway to Ouray and back. Amazing views and the shelf-road was an experience. Shopped some in Ouray and enjoyed some scenic pull overs along the way. Day 6 & 7 - we started our long trip home, near 960 miles. First day was Silverton to Roswell, the landscape across northern New Mexico is interesting. Second day was Roswell to the home, crossing the vast west Texas.
